A quiet, hill-ringed lake in the south-west, where the pace drops after gorilla trekking and the days are spent on the water.
Lake Bunyonyi sits in the highlands of south-western Uganda, a long, winding lake with islands scattered across it and steep, terraced hills falling to the shore. It is one of the most peaceful places on a Uganda route, and many travellers remember it as the part of the trip where they finally slowed down. The days here are simple. Paddle a canoe between the islands, walk the hill paths above the water, watch for birds along the shore, or sit on a veranda and look at the view. Visits to nearby communities can give the stay a sense of the people who live around the lake. Bunyonyi fits naturally between the forest and the savanna. It is a common rest stop for travellers heading to or from the gorilla parks, so a day or two here turns a hard run of early starts into a journey with room in it. We can add it to a gorilla trek, a wider south-west route or a longer Uganda itinerary, and set the length of the stay around how much time you have
