Rwanda’s Virunga rainforest destination for mountain gorillas, golden monkeys, volcano views and highland hiking.
Volcanoes National Park protects Rwanda’s side of the Virunga Massif, where steep volcanic slopes carry bamboo, evergreen forest, grassland and high-altitude vegetation. The park is best known for mountain gorilla tracking, with golden monkey tracking and hiking adding other ways to experience the forest and volcanic landscape. The chain of Virunga peaks defines the setting. For Syson, Volcanoes National Park is Rwanda’s core primate destination and a natural cross-border extension to south-western Uganda journeys centred on Bwindi or Mgahinga.
